It's my 1-Year Chicago-versary!

I can hardly believe it, but I've been a Chicagoan for a year as of today. It's weird; it both feels like it's been a wink, and also like a lifetime. I've done a lot of living in the past year; it's been a crazy journey.

And tangible evidence of my journey can be seen in one way today: today I'm starting my new job at an amazing company in a field that I've discovered that I'm truly passionate about. I'm back into ad copy testing, and as you read this, I'm probably nervously stumbling up to my new cubicle with my work "buddy" who is there to help me adjust.

I've been reflecting for the past week or so on everything this amazing city has done for me, and all of the amazing people who have come into my life because of it. In the past 365 days, I started running again, made new friends who I see regularly, picked up a new hobby (soul cycle), grew in my career, went broke (and then learned to save money) and helped my dog come out of his shell. I've grown emotionally and professionally...and I've never been happier with myself than I am today.

I fell in love, had my heart broken, recovered, and fell in love all over again. I've learned that it's okay to confront anxiety and depression head on and I've learned that I'm a lot more brave and resilient than I thought. I made amazing friends and strengthened old friendships and I've found amazing communities (shout out to NRC and NTC) that support me both on and off the running trail.

Chicago has given me a lot of perspective and has taught me that I can be self-sufficient. I've learned that it's okay to spend time alone, and that as nice as it is to talk to my parents, I don't need them to hold my hand anymore.

I've learned a lot about myself, both what I like and don't like. I've learned that it's never too late to make a change, and I've learned to embrace change.

I love you, Chicago. Thank you for everything. You certainly are my Sweet Home.
