Becoming an Instructor: CycleBar Fulton Market
I spent most of my days prior to college as the opposite of an athlete. I mean, I always participated in sports, but I was never athletic. I always had to work harder for things than the other kids because it didn't come naturally to me. I thought, anyway. I had two moments in my school years that I pinpoint as life changing: one, the 7th grade Pacer Test that I came in second on (that's where you learn to pace yourself and jog back and forth across the gym to the tone of beats gradually speeding up) and my senior year of high school, where I made the tough decision to quit softball (I would have been riding the bench all year) and start running Cross Country and Track.
I gave up running from 2009 through 2015, because an orthopedic surgeon told me my offset Q-Angles in my knees would prevent me from never running sans pain, but restarted again out of pure defiance and the will to have a hobby in the city. From there, I met a friend who introduced me to Nike Run Club (which I've written about before) and my life began to revolve more around health and fitness.
I met with Janelle at CycleBar Fulton Market last winter, after they had signed the lease for the location and were working with influencers. What started as a relationship to help build an influencer program turned into me auditioning (poorly but with potential) to be an instructor, going through a grueling bootcamp at which my body developed an addiction to caffeine and creatine (only partially kidding) and landed with me having the opportunity of a lifetime.
As a lot of you know, I wrote about losing my job in May. CycleBar has been an amazing job to focus on, and now as I prepare to begin my new career at a tech startup, I feel grateful that I had all of the time I did to dedicate to training and teaching extra classes before I balanced both my office career and my fitness career simultaneously. You know what they say: everything happens for a reason. I truly feel that it did in this situation.
