Race 10: Monster Dash 10k

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend. I capped off my weekend with a PR!

It was a gorgeous Sunday for a 10k! It started late enough that I still got a good night's sleep after a night out in Wrigleyville (GO CUBS GO!) on Saturday. It was in an awkward spot, however. It was in the south lot of Soldier Field and started at 9:30am. I grabbed a red bull on my way (I had forgotten my Unico Athena pre-workout that I usually take prior to longer runs) and got ready to go.

I was using this race to break in my shoes for the runDisney Wine and Dine Half in two weeks!

The race started promptly at 9:30, and there were no corrals, just pace markers. The course an out-and-back along the lake front path, and was nice and mostly flat. I absolutely love that part of the path--the lake is gorgeous down there and there are little pockets of nature reserves along the way. The only issue I hit was on my way back, near the most crucial miles (4, 5, 6) hit the 5k'ers. I 100% am not talking about the families with kids. 9 times out of 10, they were polite and followed running etiquette and kept to the far right. But there were a lot of uninterested "runners" who just wanted the medal and the jacket, I think, who weren't very polite about the course. I must have yelled "on your left!" a dozen times during my final mile.

Despite the rough run-in with the 5k, I still PR'd! It was a fun race overall and I had a good time and met a few new awesome runners.

Hooray for PRs! What did you do this weekend?
