Brittany Rambles: When Life Doesn't Go As Planned

Posts should solve a problem or address an issue, right? Well, that's precisely what I'm doing with this post. I've been MIA for three weeks now and I want to tell you why.

I lost my job three weeks ago. On a Monday at noon. Out of the blue. Without going into specifics, I learned that you don't have to do anything wrong to lose a position in an at-will state. That's the world for you; sometimes it isn't quite fair.

But I will tell you this: when life doesn't go as planned, it doesn't mean that life isn't still going. The day I came home from work with everything in tow, I got a rush of texts, facebook messages, and linkedin messages from coworkers expressing their gratitude for everything I did for them, and telling me to reach out if I need anything. That was a huge comfort; I felt like such a failure and I was confused and hurt, but I had made an impact on everyone I had worked with, and it seems like it was a positive one.

I will say that I had never been so stressed, or dreaded a job as much, as I dreaded this one. On one 1+ hour car ride to a client, I mentioned that I was starting marathon training and was excited for CycleBar to open, and a couple of days later those casual, car ride conversation starters were used against me. I felt like I was walking on eggshells, and I was coming home and logging on my laptop until 10pm every evening (including weekends) near the end so that I wouldn't miss any emails. The stress was immense and it was affecting my relationships with my friends, family and self.

Looking to the future, I've had a chance to reevaluate what I want from a company and my life. I know red flags, I know what I'm suited for and what I'm not. I learned that I'm the best version of myself when I'm passionate and in love with my company, coworkers, and industry. I learned that I'm stronger than I think. And I'm learning to identify the signs of depression all over again, but this time, I'm trying to nip them in the proverbial bud.

So that's where I've been. Know anyone looking for someone with a lot of marketing and writing experience who is bubbly, extroverted, and loves to work with people? Send them my way. In the meantime I'm going to put a lot of work into my blog to keep things looking up.

Love all of you and thank you for the support.
