Fitness and Your Skin
Up until my work trip (California Smog and recycled airplane air aren't favorites of my skin, apparently), my skin was in the best shape it had been in in years, despite all of my working out. It took a while to get my routine down, but now that I've found it it's working well and I wanted to share what's been working for me, despite all of the sweat and grime from running and yoga!
I had this broken out by Day vs. Night, but realized that'd not actually 100% how I care for my skin--I actually treat it more by how my skin feels and what it needs. While I do have a couple of products which are night specific (my Elizabeth Arden Good Night's Sleep, for example) most of my products can be used around the clock, and so I use them as I feel my skin needs them.
On a typical night, I cleanse my skin with Let the Good Times Roll Facial and Body Cleanser by Lush. This was the first game changer in my skin routine and is the first product I've used since my acne began when I was 12 that has kept working year after year. I've been using it for three years now and have no desire to try anything else. It's gentle enough to use multiple times a day. I follow this up with Elizabeth Arden's Good Night's Sleep, which unfortunately I don't believe is made any longer (I'll be trying Nite-a-Mins from Origins when I run out) and Benefit's It's Potent! Eye Cream. So basically, my nights are all about moisturizing, which I never thought I would say. I always thought my skin was oily, but it turns out that it's actually dry and over-producing oil as a result.
My lazy night skin solution: Simple Micellar Cleansing Water. It also comes in wipes, which keep in my gym bag and also have decided to keep in my airplane carry on, after my recent skin mishap in San Francisco.
On nights when my skin is in not great shape (read: breakouts), I use Lush's Ocean Salt Sea Salt Scrub. It has vodka in it and helps dry up my acne. I also have a new product from Proactive that I use on particularly nasty pimples. The combination is a total miracle worker.
In the mornings, if I work out, I again use the Let the Good Times Roll cleanser, followed by my Neutrogena Clear Face Sunscreen. If I haven't worked out, I still use the sunscreen, but skip the cleanser for the Micellar Water. I am especially sure to use that when I use the Proactiv blemish pen the night before. If my eye makeup from the night before left my undereyes craving more moisture, I'll use the Garnier Under Eye Roller and will again use It's Potent! under my eyes. To top it all off, the only make up I wear on my skin on my face is the Nars Tinted Moisturizer, in the shade Finland. I don't wear it every day, but if I'm in business casual or feel like a little more coverage, that Nars moisturizer is my go-to.
Hopefully that's helpful to you as you continue along your fitness journey!
